10-Point Review of Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed

Have you ever envied a duck for sleeping so deep, undisturbed throughout the night? I have, so when I learned that there is a sleep brand called Sleeping Duck, I wanted to know more. Half intrigued and half amused by the name, I discovered an impressive brand, with an amazing product that rules the Australian market and will likely conquer Americans as well. What’s so special about it? I’ll try to explain it all in this 10-point review of the Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed. 

1. Review of Sleeping Duck History and Evolution

The company was founded in 2014, in Australia, with official headquarters at 8 Carlton St, Prahran, Victoria 3181, AU. The founders, Winston Wijeyeratne and Selvam Sinnappan, are aerospace engineers. In 2017, they participated in the Shark Tank. They managed to convince the sharks to finance their project but turned down their offer to grow Sleeping Duck on their own and turn it into a multimillion-dollar company. 

Since then, their products conquered the hearts and bedrooms of Australians with their quality, durability, and innovative design, winning multiple awards and receiving endorsements from thousands of happy customers and numerous media websites and 3rd party reviewers. It should come as no surprise, considering that their mattresses withstood a 15 tonne steam roller test, and their Indestruct Bed aced a 32 ft crane-drop test.

Not long ago, the company announced their expansion to the U.S. with their flagship product, the Indestruct Bed, which is the focus of this review. Here’s how they pitch it to the public: 

2. Indestruct Bed Design and Aesthetic Concerns

Since the Indestruct Bed is the only Sleeping Duck product available in the U.S., the entire website is dedicated to it. It’s filled with videos and information explaining its features and benefits. Going through them should help you decide if this bed frame is right for you and your bedroom. If the decision is favorable, the next step is to choose between the different options available to customize the bed to your needs: 

• Size – Currently available sizes are: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King.
• Legs – Depending on your height, preference, and storage needs, you can choose between 5.9” and 7.9” legs
• Artisan Skins – Charcoal, Stone, or Ivory Fabric or European Ash, European Oak, and American Walnut Timber
• Headboard – Your Indestruct Bed can be customized with a headboard, in the furniture or timber finish you’ve chosen

Many shoppers choose bedroom sets for their home, to make sure the different elements, nightstands, closets, TV stand, etc. match perfectly. Sleeping Duck doesn’t provide such options but one of the available finishes will easily match your needs. If you want rustic or classic, the timber shades should be perfect. For modern designs, the fabric artisan skin should work best. Moreover, a bit of contrast or a small difference in tone never hurts, especially in products designed with such fine taste and elegance.

But this is not one of those flimsy beds you buy to create a specific atmosphere, it is the centerpiece of a bedroom designed for great sleep, support, comfort, and durability. So instead of choosing the bed that matches the rest of the furniture, consider finding matching furniture for the bed of your choice. It’s preferrable to buying a beautiful and perfectly matching bed that doesn’t let you sleep with its squeaking and shaking, don’t you agree?

3. Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Unboxing and Assembly

The bed usually ships in two days but, depending on where you live and how busy shipping providers are, delivery can take up to 1 week, even more during major sales periods. Shipping is free to metropolitan areas but come with additional costs for rural area shoppers.

It’s important to monitor delivery updates and prepare for its arrival. Ensure you have at least one more person available to help with the unboxing and assembly. Depending on the size, the full bed can exceed 340 lbs, so more than one person can handle. It’s not very compact either, so clear out decent space in the bedroom for its assembly. From this point of view, this bed is not a viable option for small rooms and students or youngsters moving frequently.

Since the different parts are packed separately and instructions are provided in the package, the process should be quite straightforward and not take more than 30 minutes, 1 hour tops. It shouldn’t require any special tools or skills either. Just arm yourself with patience and follow the instructions provided!

4. Perfect for Couples and Families of All Sizes and Weights

Did you ever sleep on a bed that felt ready to fall apart? Have you had sex on a shaky and squeaky bed, worrying that you’ll wake up everyone in the house or, worse, the neighbors? Did you ever have to ask the kids to not jump on the bed for fear they may break it? Well, this bed is the exact opposite!

It’s, literally, indestructible – squeak-free and shake-free guaranteed! It relies on a 100+ lbs structural-grade (S235) steel chassis to be able to support weights of up to 5000 lbs. That’s huge, considering that most beds on the market only support up to 1000 lbs. It’s also more than enough to support an overweight family of four or five, and certainly stable enough to support an overweight couple, no matter how active, having sex. 

The bed is so sturdy and the manufacturer is sure about its sturdiness that they dropped it from a height of 32 ft to prove it. Submitted to the same test, other beds fell apart but the Indestruct Bed remained intact. If that doesn’t prove sturdiness, durability, and reliability, I don’t know what could!

5. The Indestruct Bed and Indestructible Spines

Mattresses have long been promoted as a viable solution to protect and support your back, to prevent and alleviate back pain. With their bed, Sleeping Duck raises awareness that even the best mattress can fail when placed on the wrong bed frame. And it makes sense!

Poorly made beds sag and break. Even the best and most supportive mattress needs a solid support base to be able to play its role when it comes to back pain. Without one, any mattress sags. On the Indestruct Bed even the worst mattress will provide some support. What’s the secret?

The steel chassis includes C-spine beams that support each sleeper’s back. They also add durability and stability to the overall structure and make it impossible for the mattress to sag. Thanks to these steel beams, you can be sure that your spine will always be properly aligned and supported.

6. UDASP Panels for Improved Airflow and Added Support

Our first bed has wooden slats to support the mattress. One day, as I was making the bed and balancing my weight on one knee to reach the most distant corner, one of the slats gave in. Naturally, more followed soon after. We were already thinking of redecorating, so we didn’t mind that much, but it helped us realize that we needed a stronger bed. We had it custom-built, along with all the bedroom furniture, making durability a top priority.

The manufacturer’s solution to improve durability was to use solid wood panels for mattress support. And it worked! The new bed was really sturdy and did a great job supporting the mattress. But it didn’t allow proper airflow, and we found that the hard way when we found our mattress infested with mold.

Sleeping Duck’s bed drew my attention by addressing all these issues: no flimsy slats to bend or break, and excellent airflow. Their UDASP (Uniform Distribution Airflow Support Panels), laid horizontally, are made of high-strength birch veneer with an eucalyptus plywood core, no less than 18mm thick. They play a dual part, optimizing mattress ventilation and providing distributed support across the entire mattress.

7. Squeak-Free and ShakeFree Guaranteed

An average bed, is supposed to support you through ~350 nights/year, for ~10 years. Unfortunately, after only a couple of years, sometimes only months, most start squeaking and shaking. You can be sure that won’t happen with your Indestruct Bed. Why?

The steel chassis is assembled with L-Spine Tri-Mount Headboard Braces. They are also made from S235 structural steel and have tri-lock mounts to ensure an ultra-firm headboard attachment. Then, instead or regular beds, you have six 6 solid steel legs assembled with M39 Bolts. 

But that’s the technical part, that some shoppers may not understand or care about. The important part is that the steel chassis comes with a limited lifetime warranty that also covers squeaks, shaking, and sagging. That means couples worried about waking up the kids or the parents in the other rooms will surely appreciate it.

Winner of the Good Design Australian Awards, this bed has great reviews everywhere, from Reddit to ProductReview.com.au, News.com.au, and BedBuyer.com.au, to name just a few. You may find some rare negative reviews on other older Sleeping Duck products sold in Australia, but everyone seems to love the Indestruct Bed.

In the U.S., the bed has few 3rd party reviews, on websites like BedReports.com and TheGandgetFlow.com, since it’s been only weeks since it launched but the news was shared by everyone from FurnitureToday.com to MarketWatch.com and Yahoo Finance. 

One thing I like about Sleeping Duck is transparency. Everyone knows the founders and the company’s history. All product details are clearly and boldly explained. Many famous brands in the U.S. claim to use fancy-named technologies to provide unbelievable benefits without actually explaining what materials they use and how those work.

Among so many marketing gimmicks, Sleeping Duck’s crazy tests and sturdy designs are a breath of fresh air.

The Sleeping Duck Bed is perfect for:

10. Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed Warnings

This bed may not be the right fit for people who:

• Want a split king bed. The split-king size is not yet available. You can buy two twin XL beds and bring them together. You may also wait for the split king to become available, buy another bed, or settle for a smaller size. 
• Can’t afford the price. Depending on the configuration, the price goes from $1099 to well over $2000. There are no financing or buy now pay later options available at this time. The price is well worth it, a lifetime investment in great sleep, health, and well-being, but only if you can afford it. 
• Have limited space and no help available or move around and redecorate frequently. This is a heavy-duty bed for serious nesters, not a quick fix for singles on the fly.
