Top 10 Companies with Best Window Blinds, Shutters and Shades Online
|[Last updated (and re-ranked): February 18, 2020]
While summer is the time of the year when we especially appreciate window blinds, shutters, and shades, depending on where you live, there may be good use for them throughout the year… It is, of course, in the sunny months that if you don’t have these, you are more frequently reminded how much you really need them. Sun can be brutal. Window coverings like these are great at preventing your house from the ultraviolet fading of rugs, hardwood floors, and furniture; and also helping you enjoy your TVs, computers, and mobile devices without that annoying glare spoiling the show. Add the element of privacy to all of these, and you have an indisputable winner.
Keeping in mind the consumers who are shopping around for online places to buy interior shutters, blinds, or window shades, we approached the task of creating the original list of the ten best companies to consider.
Before you proceed, keep also in mind that while our original “Best of Blinds” list was created several years ago, it generated such a great consumer interest that we’ve made it a routine to update it several times in the course of each consecutive year. The exact date of the most recent update may be found in the first line above.
Here are the top 10 companies we recommend considering:
1. Blinds.com
This is a truly impressive online retailer. They sell twice as many blinds as their closest competitor does. The actual numbers exceed 4,200 blinds sold by Blinds.com online every day. They’ve made lists of Inc 500, Internet Retailer’s Top 500 brands, and were also awarded Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year prize in 2006. Their SureFit™ Guarantee covers you as a blinds customer. They also guarantee prices lower than you would get at Lowe’s or at Home Depot; and do so within 30 days of purchase. While we’re listing them first, because of our alphabetical order, they would’ve remained in this place in a true ranking as well.
2. Blinds Express
As the company itself puts it “over 45 years of customer service excellence,” they strive nothing else but your full satisfaction: from the research phase of your shopping process to the ordering and beyond. They sell window blinds, shades, shutters, and also wood drapery and panel track systems. They charge no sales tax (apart from New York state), offer overnight delivery, multiple payment options, and support by friendly and knowledgeable staff.
3. Blinds Galore
Regardless of positioning themselves as “a small family owned business” this company is truly “passionate about bringing beautiful and affordable custom window treatments” to every home. Everything is 100% custom made, orders ship for free within contiguous U.S.; and on top of everything they have a love-it-of-exchange-it-for-free policy too.
4. Blind Saver
Launched in late 2003 this company “established itself as one of the nation’s premier online custom window covering retailers.” They carry products by an array of well-known industry brands (including Bali, Graber, Levolor, Good Housekeeping, and more). Every order comes with free ground shipping, free exchanges, and they even offer free samples (which ship within 1 business day).
5. Steve’s Blinds & Wallpaper
Submitted by our reader, Janet who applauded them for great “prices and customer service” under this post, this family business has been around since 1950. Just as the name implies, they focus on two things: blinds and wallpaper. “Steve’s Guarantee” – which is backed up by their 65+ years in business – is made of four promises: 100% satisfaction guarantee, lifetime lowest price guarantee, no hidden fee guarantee, and free lifetime warranty.
6. 3 Day Blinds
This company’s motto is: bringing “you premium custom window treatments with unrivaled service and value.” They pride themselves with “more than 37 years of client satisfaction” with 9 out of 10 clients being wiling to recommend them to friends and family. Besides blinds and shutters, they also offer shades, curtains, drapes, and a number of other window treatment options to choose from.
7. Next Day Blinds
Just as the name implies, this Maryland-headquartered blinds company is committed to delivering “premium-quality, fully custom window coverings in a matter of days, rather than weeks.” The two unfortunate things are that (i) while they do sell online, it’s best to take advantage of their in-home consultation and measurements, and (ii) they are very geo-targeted serving Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. But if you live in this area, they are well worth checking out!
8. Wayfair
Being “one of the world’s largest online destinations for the home,” they are a great place to shop for window blinds, shutters, and shades. Wayfair offers pretty wide selections of all (literally 1,000+ SKUs!) and is definitely worth a look.
9. Shop Ladder
This one is a really interesting company, one that grew from a bootstrapped startup into a major online retailer. They, too, carry an array of blinds and shades. At the time of this review, their inventory is fairly evenly split between bamboo blinds, horizontal window blinds, indoor roll up shades, Matchstick blinds, pictures blinds, and Roman shades. They also carry a few options for outdoor window shades.
10. Oriental Decor
As our “number ten”, check out this seller who carries a number of blinds in (and with) Oriental motifs which may suit the style of your dwelling.
Finally, do browse the selection of blinds carried by Walmart.com and Target.com. Both carry a number of affordable vinyl options of blinds and shades. Free shipping is also available on orders over a certain amount.
Also: for exterior shutters, a good company to consider is CustomExteriorShutters.com.
Happy shutters and blinds shopping; and if we’ve missed your favorite vendor, please do add them through the “Comments” function below.
I Think you guys left out BlindsOnLine.com. BlindsOnLine.com sells top quality window blinds and shades wholesale to the public. Check them out you will not be disappointed.
That’s also a good one. Thank you, Mike. Blinds Online is definitely a company to check out as well.
You’re also missing Blindsgalore.com. Their website is super easy to use.
Thank you, Chelsea. Now, thanks to you, we have them too!
Our fine hardwood shutters come in a choice of Northern Basswood, Incense Cedar, Alder, or Indonesian Hardwood. Our most popular hardwood shutters are made from the finest grade of Northern Basswood, sustainably grown and harvested in forests located in the Northern Midwest USA and Southern Canada. Basswood is popular because of its very tight grain and resistance to splitting and warping.
Hi,
I could not agree more about the review on Blinds.com. When we moved into our new home, we needed curtains/shades/blinds in all the rooms. Since I had not found blinds.com, I ordered my initial 3 blinds from Calico. The blinds were Hunter Douglas blinds, and they cost over $2000 for 3 blinds, which is outrageous. However, it only gets worse. All three blinds broke within 3 months and getting them fixed was a nightmare.
So, I decided to try a different company and that is when I discovered blinds.com. I’ve ordered roughly 30 blinds from them and have been super pleased. The customer service is amazing and the blinds are wonderful too. The 30 blinds cost us less then the 3 blinds in our bedroom; so, they are also very reasonably priced. I am super super happy with them.
Laurie
I have had good results from Steve’s Blinds and Wallpaper. Prices and customer service was excellent. I do not see them on your list. Have you had any experience with them?
They now are (see above). Thank you, Janet.
I will like to order blinds are available in 5/8 in. & 1 in. width slats
According to me, Smart Blinds & Shutters is one of the best window blinds and shades manufacturers. They offer excellent quality blinds and shutters at very affordable prices.
Thanks for your input, Adam.
That’s also a good one. Thank you, Mike. Blinds Online is definitely a company to check out as well.
Excellent article although a lot can happen in 6 years, especially when a company decide to rest on its laurels falsely feeling the top spot is “own” buy them! Not saying this is the case with Blinds.com, I hope they have maintained their enviable position, just saying this is a reality!! Many a company have fallen prey to this lofty thinking. The key is has Blinds.com been able to maintain their status and number “1” position at the top. It would be nice for you reading public to see that you revisit your finding every 5 years. These are fast moving times, things can change very quickly, especially in the business world. There is always some bright innovative and intelligent competitor wanting to be “Number One” as you well know, I’m sure.
Great points, Donald.
We’re actually updating the list regularly throughout the year (the “Last Updated” line preceding the content reflects the most recent update of the article).
If you have specific brands/companies in mind, don’t be shy – mention them here (providing the reasoning why, you believe, they are better than the others listed here). This will be helpful for all of us (and primarily the readers of this article).
Thanks in advance.
It would be nice to see $$ signs to indicate general price points.
Great idea, Donna! Any thoughts on the actual ranges to attach to each? With restaurants (at least per Yelp), it typically goes as follows:
$ = under $10
$$ = $11-$30
$$$ = $31-$60
$$$$ = over $61
But what would you find of use/help with vendors like the above ones?
