We did the research for you and dug out the 10 most important things that you need to know about these two services before choosing one.  So, before making your decision, consider our findings below!

1. Delivery Service Basics

Both services promise fresh, vet-formulated food made from high-quality ingredients. They portion it according to your dog’s needs, pack it, and deliver it to your door every two weeks, according to your subscription plan.

To find out how much their services cost, you need to fill in your pet’s details. Both service providers request the pet’s name, weight, age, and weight goals. Ollie also requests information about the dog’s breed, activity level, type of food eaten so far, main protein, and allergies.

Once you fill in the requested information, they will calculate your dog’s daily calorie needs and suggest adequate food delivery plans. Ollie lets you choose whether to feed your dog exclusively with the food they provide or combine it with other types of dog food. They offer two subscription plans:

• All Ollie (100% of your dog’s needs for two weeks)
• Some Ollie (25% of your dog’s needs for two weeks)

NomNomNow only asks you to introduce the pet’s target weight. This way, they determine if your pet needs to lose or gain weight, and adjust their offer accordingly. Based on the information you provide, both service providers will display the price and the proposed delivery plan, letting you choose between their various recipes. Their subscription plan depends on the chosen recipes and the area you live in and your plans. You can opt for full portions to cover all your pet’s needs, or half portions to mix with something else.

2. Offer Variety

Both NomNomNow and Ollie offer four meal options. Those who order from NomNomNow can choose between:

• Heartland Beef Mash
• Tasty Turkey Fare
• Chicken Chow-Wow
• Porkalicious Potluck

Ollie’s offer includes:

• Beef
• Chicken
• Turkey
• Lamb

As you can see, both providers offer beef, chicken, and turkey, but the former chose pork as a fourth option, while the latter settled for lamb. NomNomNow allows subscribers to receive multiple recipes with each delivery, charging a flat amount of $5/order. They also allow rotating between recipes for each delivery at no additional charge. Ollie only lets subscribers order two recipes in one box after the first delivery, to ensure the pet’s safe transition to the new diet.

NomNomNow’s treats consist of pork and pumpkin strips, beef jerky, chicken jerky, and holiday gift packs combining all three varieties. They address cat owners as well, offering two basic recipes (chicken and fish, fresh and canned), the same treats available for dogs, and microbiome testing.

Ollie, on the other hand, offers four snack options besides the basic recipes, namely sweet potato slices and beef, chicken, and turkey strips. We cannot help but appreciate Ollie’s decision to choose lamb over pork since lamb is healthier. However, we have to give NomNomNow credit for their wider selection of products and for the fact that they cater to the needs of cat owners as well.

3. Ingredients

Both dog food suppliers claim to use natural, human-grade ingredients. They provide the complete ingredient list and nutritional information for their recipes. Ollie claims to have worked with a specialized veterinarian to create AAFCO-compliant recipes and meet all dogs’ nutritious needs. NomNomNow, on the other hand, assures their recipes exceed AAFCO standards and contain real, whole-food ingredients.

After carefully analyzing the recipes of both suppliers, we noticed the following differences between them:

• All NomNomNow recipes include the NomNomNow nutrient mix composed of: choline bitartrate, ferrous sulfate, zinc gluconate, manganese gluconate, copper gluconate, selenium chelate, sodium iodide, and Vitamins E, B1, B2, B12 and D3.
• NomNomNow does not use animal organs in their recipes because, as they explain on their website, the nutritional value of these organs depends on the animal’s diet, and they have no control over it.
• Ollie does use organs, but they make it clear that they select their sources carefully to ensure the highest quality for their ingredients. The chicken is hormone-free, the beef and turkey come from human-grade U.S. farms, and the lamb is pasture-raised, sourced from free-range American and Australian farms. The produce, oil, and seeds are human-grade as well.
• Ollie promises fresh natural food, free of by-products, fillers, preservatives or artificial flavors. NomNomNow only mentions that their products are made from real, natural ingredients.
• NomNomNow has simpler recipes, with fewer natural ingredients aside from their branded nutrient mix. Ollie’s recipes include a variety of healthy ingredients and superfoods, such as chia seeds, cod liver oil, basil, rosemary, blueberries, and more.

While the nutrient mix may impress many dog owners and tilt the balance in favor of NomNomNow, Ollie seems more reliable, at least as far as ingredients are concerned. They seem to pay more attention to the quality and provenience of the ingredients they use, and they have more varied nutrient-rich recipes. Supplements may be necessary, but their quantity and type should be adjusted to every recipe.

4.  Price

As mentioned above, both suppliers adjust their offer to the needs of the dog and of the owner. To better assess their prices, we created profiles on both websites using the same data: an allergy-free fit female Rottweiler born in January 2018, weighing 100lbs, whose former diet consisted of predominantly dry food having meat as the main protein.  We requested delivery to the same address in Ohio. Here are the recommendations and prices we received from each supplier:

• NomNomNow charged $126.7 for the free trial and $84.43/weekly, with payments and delivery every two weeks. The weekly price climbs to $86.93 when combining two recipes. The prices drop at 50% if you opt for half-portions, case in which payment and delivery take place monthly. There are no price differences between the various recipes.
• Ollie offers three options: 100%, 50%, and 25% Ollie. The prices range as follows: $89.99/$56.66/$32.68 for beef, $93.59/$58.93/$33.98 for chicken, $101.69/$64.03/$36.92 for lamb, and $103.49/$65.16/$37.58 for turkey.

Judging by these prices, NomNomNow’s offer seems more affordable. However, Ollie uses ingredients of a higher quality, so you basically get what you pay for.

5. Trial Offers

Both NomNomNow and Ollie offer discounts for the first box of meals ordered to encourage trials. The former offers a 20% discount. The latter deducts the price by 50%.

Please keep in mind that ordering the trial box will automatically subscribe you to regular deliveries and charges. If you do not want that, make sure to cancel your subscription as soon as possible. We will explain how in the following lines.

6. Refund Policies

Both dog food suppliers guarantee that dogs love their recipes. They are so sure of that that they are ready to reimburse disappointed customers. Ollie offers full refunds for the first box ordered.

NomNomNow guarantees that you will see your pet’s health, appearance, and energy levels improve after 30 days of eating their recipes. If you do not see the difference, they will buy your pet’s next diet. However, the maximum amount they will spend is $40. They also grant refunds on non-perishable, unopened items, at their discretion, and with a restocking fee of $5. However, the food is perishable, so it will not qualify.

For our 100 pounds Rotweiller, this guarantee would mean that, after we spend minimum $300+ on four weeks’ worth of food, if we are disappointed, NomNomNow may agree to pay us back $40, a little over 11% of the money we spent. It should be obvious why we find Ollie’s offer safer and more reliable.

7. Cancellations

If at any time during your subscription, you decide the food you are ordering for your dog is not worth the price, it is your right to cancel. Just keep in mind that the cancellation will apply to future charges and shipments, not to the ones already processed.

In order to cancel your NomNomNow subscription, you have to send your request by email at care@nomnomnow.com. The request will be processed within one week. If NomNomNow usually charges your credit card on Wednesdays, for example, sending your request by Wednesday noon this week will help you avoid charges starting with the following week.

Ollie warns that they will not refund any charges already made to your credit card and they require a reasonable amount of time to process your request. If you decide to cancel your subscription on the day they usually charge your credit card, they may still charge you. To express your desire to cancel, send an email to caninecare@myollie.com.

8. Support

NomNomNow has a Learn section on their website, where visitors can find helpful information and tips regarding dog food, health, and more. Their Help Center offers answers to frequently asked questions and other clarifications new customers may need. If you have questions, you can send them by email at care@nomnomnow.com. You can also request an answer by phone, at 415-991-0669, from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Ollie offers information to frequently asked questions and details regarding their products, services, and terms and conditions in the Support section of their website. If you cannot find the answers you are looking for there, you can contact them directly. They are available by email, at caninecare@myollie.com, by phone, at 844-88-OLLIE, and by live chat. This final option makes them more accessible than their main competitor.

Both NomNomNow and Ollie have blog sections on their websites. Besides helpful blog posts, the former also offers four online guides on puppies feeding, dog food allergies, weight loss, and dog not eating. These can certainly come in handy to any first-time dog owner.

9. The Companies Behind Them

Both companies are based in the U.S. They claim to follow vet-formulated recipes and house the production process in human-grade facilities. Neither is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. NomNomNow has a C- rating with them, while Ollie stands a little better, with a B+ rating.

We love Ollie for their transparency, for the fact that they disclose photos and videos of their production process. They are very warm, friendly, and dedicated to ensuring their customers’ satisfaction. The NomNomNow team, on the other hand, includes four reputable veterinarians, which adds to the company’s credibility.

10. Customer Reviews

Both dog food delivery services have an excellent reputation among pet owners and independent reviewers. We could not find ratings lower than 4/5 stars, and most ratings are of 5/5 stars. Therefore, you have every reason to hope that your dog will love the food no matter where you order it from.

Final Thoughts on Choosing between NomNomNow and Ollie

Both dog food delivery services seem very reliable and worth trying. As a result, we find it difficult to recommend one in favor of the other. You may find NomNomNow more convenient if you have a cat. You can combine subscriptions and, hopefully, obtain a discount. This option may also suit you if you are on a limited budget. If money is not a problem, Ollie will probably appeal to you more.

An in-between alternative that matches Ollie’s offer in terms of quality and trustworthiness and NomNomNow’s offer in terms of affordability and convenience (offering cat food as well) is Darwin’s Natural Pet Products.
