Top Ten Best Selling Books – 10 Places That List Them

Every once in a while, when looking for something new to read, we wonder: “So, what are the top ten best books these days?”

The is no one unified list. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s too hard to find an answer to the above question. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to tell. Today we’d like to equip you with 10 ways to judge for yourself, and with this goal in mind we’re pleased to bring you our Top 10 List of places to turn to when looking to find out the lists of top bestselling books. We recommend looking at:

  1. The New York Times Best Sellers — Weekly compilations of books (and e-books!) by the following 8 categories: print & e-books, hardcover, paperback, e-books, advice and miscellaneous, children’s, graphic books, combined print. Each category further breaks down into two or more sub-categories, making up a total of twenty rankings/lists.
  2. Wall Street Journal Best-Sellers — Weekly-renewed lists of bestselling books compiled from Nielsen BookScan data. Two categories: fiction and nonfiction.
  3. USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books (aka What America’s Reading) — Weekly ranking of “the 150 top-selling titles each week based on an analysis of sales from U.S. booksellers” from bookstore chains to independent book sellers to online outlets.
  4. Amazon.com Bestsellers — Together with the next list, this is one of very few “real time” lists out there which ranks the most popular books sold on Amazon. Includes over 30 categories including even audible books, books in Spanish, and much-much more.
  5. Barnes & Noble Bestseller Books — This B&N’s list of the top 100 books is also called “This Hour’s Bestsellers” which accurately reflects how “up-to-date” it really is.
  6. Publishers Weekly Bestseller Lists — Nine lists: hardcover fiction, hardcover nonfiction, mass market paper, trade paper, children’s fiction, children’s picture book, children’s series and tie-ins, audio fiction, and audio nonfiction.
  7. Indie Bestsellers— This is another one of the “reported weekly” lists which lets us know what sells best at independent booksellers across America.
  8. The Washington Post Bestsellers List & Critics’ Picks — Authoritative weekly lists of Washington area bestsellers, as well as critics’ advice.
  9. Chicago Tribune Best-Seller List — Also sometimes called “Best of the Midwest”, this is another good resource to turn to.
  10. Powell’s Books Bestsellers — Powells.com offers us two lists: top 50 books judging by what sells best at their online store, and also Powell’s Staff Picks which lists top 5 recommended books of the day.

Understanding that the above ten focus primarily on the USA, we’d like to also mention two more places to turn to (if you live outside the United States). If you wonder what books sell best in Canada, you want to check out The Globe and Mail‘s list, while in the United Kingdom, you don’t want to miss The Guardian’s Best Books lists.

We hope you will find the above list of help, and if we have missed your favorite resource, please do mention it in the “Comments” below.
